The fact that human number one (yes, that’s me) has always been a great afficionado of old-fashioned things like writing and pens and paper means that plentiful hand-written records of our life with the cats exist.

Later, of course, spread sheets and online documents played their parts, but in the early days there were notebooks and diaries chronicling firstly the humans’ lives in a new country, but also including snippets of cat-related news. And, as the months and years passed, the balance changed to chronicling firstly the lives and times of the cats, but also including snippets of human-related news.

So today here are some snippets from Year 3, each illustrated with a photo.

‘The cats reappeared today and got a treat of bacon rind. Think we will see more of them now!’

‘Well what a shock it was to discover that the cat Ana is a boy! Have spent ages trying to think of a new name.’

‘The cats are most put out that we are pulling out all the long grass where they like to lie.’

‘Today the responsibility of feeding the cats on Sundays became ours. Not long before the other six days are added we think…’
…and the next related entry, just four days later…
‘Well how quickly feeding-the-cats-7-days-a-week happened! New responsibilities…’

‘Gales up to 65kmph – The Cat is not impressed and has wedged herself between 2 plant-pots in the drive to try and shelter.’
