Today a few more photos from The Emerald Window. It was well-used but there are not many photos as it was in a dark corner, and under the pomegranate tree, as you can see from this first photo showing sisters Pippin (looking out of The Emerald Window) and Souci.

Its access from the veranda was from under the water tank which was propped up on pallets resting on limestone blocks, and kittens could slide between the garage wall and these blocks or wriggle into the gaps in the pallets if they needed somewhere to hide.
This was the view right through from under the pomegranate tree – you could see who was at the food and water bowls, in this case it was … (wait for it…)

…Cosmos, eating on the veranda.

There were food and water bowls under the olive and pomegranate trees and on the veranda, and each cat had their own favourite, some heading straight to the veranda via The Emerald Window to eat and drink there; the veranda also had the advantage of being under cover in case of bad weather.
The kittens loved practising their jumps up and down from The Emerald Window down to the box and honed their warrior skills by fighting each other under the tarpaulin as Mini’s kittens Bubble and Squeak were doing in this photo.

The header photo shows Pippin’s son Mandarin bravely defending The Emerald Window from all and sundry. You could never be sure which reprobates might try to pass without permission, after all.
So all in all, The Emerald Window was a very grand name for a gap in some tarpaulin. And, if you’re a storyteller, then everything needs its own grand name.
