Stardust was happy with the Garden Family; he had the company of other cats of his own age and his placid temperament meant that he fitted in well. His colouring and appearance may have been different, but every cat is different, anyway.

We wondered whether there would be any more grey cats – you never know with feral cats, as you have no idea where they roam and what other cats they meet. And, as it happened, another grey kitten did come along, but this time from Twilight, a dark tortoiseshell feral female, who lived in the fields. Twilight brought her family to the drive for weaning and, when they were independent, she returned to live in the fields.

Storm and her sisters Dawn and Dusk eventually found their way into the garden and joined the Garden Family. Storm was the same colour as Stardust – a soft, smooth grey. The girls spent their time between the garden and the fields where they had been brought up.

And then, the following year, Storm gave birth to Tumbleweed in the fields. She chose to raise him there and bring him for weaning, just as her mother had done before. And, like her mother, Storm then returned to the fields leaving Tumbleweed to discover the garden and become part of the Garden Family.

Tumbleweed’s character was very similar to Stardust’s; he was affectionate and very entertaining, easy to look after and a happy cat.

Once again, the Garden Family had a grey cat. It seemed that Stardust’s legacy had lived on.
