Following on from yesterday’s post, here are the final five photos showing The Cat actually looking at the camera.
There are eleven in total, one taken during each year that we looked after her ![]()

2017 – by now, The Cat was friendly. Obviously, training the humans was an ongoing project, but on the whole she was satisfied with progress.

2018 – boxes were important. They had not been important before the humans arrived, but now that the humans were there and boxes were kindly supplied by our local greengrocer, it was important that The Cat made full use of them and staked her claim to the best ones.

2019 – as matriarch, The Cat had priority when it came to sitting in the first sun of the morning on the water tank on the terrace. Her family would often gather around her, sometimes with other cats too, but she was always the mainstay of the group.

2020 – one look, and the humans were put in their place. We all knew who was boss (especially the boss).

2021 – this photo was taken only a few weeks before The Cat passed away, in front of the feeding station with grand-daughter Calypso. The Cat had been suffering from mange, although the treatment was working. Although a spot-on treatment was possible (with some careful planning), cleaning her face and eyes was definitely not something that she would allow.

Her feral roots were evident right to the end; once a feral cat, always a feral cat.
