Carrying on with the theme of surnames or family names, the next year brought five new names to the Garden Family kittens.

First there was the new family of Cracker’s identical twin sister, Cheese. The kittens (Oregano, Turmeric and Persil) were called the Babybels (the brand name of some mini cheeses), continuing the cheese theme. Souci and Cheese were very close at that time and Souci became a second mother to the kittens, and companion to Cheese. It was curious to see Souci and Cheese’s connection, as Souci had been raised after the age of twelve weeks by Cheese’s sister, Cracker.

Flora’s younger daughter Pippin also had a litter this year, making The Cat a great-grandmother just a few months before she passed away; kittens Pascal and Pascha Pip were born on Easter Eve. Here Pascal is at the food bowl and Pascha in the grass behind Pippin.

Dawn’s kittens Swallow, Linnet, Cetti and Raven were born in the fields and she brought them to the garden when they were a few weeks old. They were given Dawn’s family name, Furriquin, as their surname. Here Dawn is sharing a bowl of food with Cetti, Linnet and Raven.

Mini had her own surname (Nearby), inherited from her mother She-ba, but as any kittens She-ba might have in the future would also be called Nearby, Mini’s family of Bubble, Squeak and Diablo got their own new family name and became the Mini-Minis. The photo shows Mini with Bubble and Squeak and all three kittens are shown with their mother in the header photo.

Later in the year, Souci had her own kittens who took her family name (Fourpaws) which she had inherited from her mother Flora. Souci and Cheese again shared mothering duties and their combined family was called the Fourpaws-Babybels.

The names may seem convoluted, but they all made perfect sense to the humans (well, to one of them at least!).
