Early photos of The Cat and her family were taken using a traditional camera. But, as the years have passed, mobile phone cameras have become much better and more sophisticated. So, thanks to the wonders of the date stamp and the convenience of mobile phones, today we can enjoy six photos from this week in March four years ago, showing the Garden Family and Visiting Cats relaxing in different parts of the garden after breakfast.
Mr Bright, napping on some fruit boxes in the garden. All the cats loved these boxes which were dotted around the garden in different formations. On damp mornings, the cats could relax out of the wet grass, groom and nap and enjoy the warmth of the sun.

Raven and his younger brother Sherpa on the verandah water tank. The back corner of the tank was the first place to catch the morning sun, and a favourite spot of The Cat’s. This was our first spring without her, and different cats were enjoying having the run of her favourite places.

Pascha striding through the grass on important business. In actual fact, Pascha was probably enjoying a bit of peace and quiet away from Sherpa who was his guide and companion for much of their time in the garden. Pascha was partially-sighted and, despite the fact that Pascha was a year older, Sherpa had been with him from when he was young.

Swift relaxing in a covered box near the feeding station. This plastic crate covered with garden netting and a waterproof layer was originally in the front path for a family of kittens whose mother had brought them to live there while they were weaning. After they left, we moved to box to discourage more cats and kittens from settling in the front path; the garden was a safer place, being further away from the road.

Mini and younger sister Sundown guarding Mini’s new family, safely tucked into a nest they had made between the wall, a fruit box, and old wooden ladder and a pile of twigs. Mini and Sundown were not friendly, although they tolerated the humans to a degree; if I had stepped any closer, Sundown would have jumped up and hissed at me on her sister’s behalf.

The header photo shows Moonstruck playing with Raven’s tail – consecutive photos show that it turned into fisticuffs, although neither of them could be bothered to stand up.
