Boomerang was one of the cats who arrived during the spring of pandemic year. He was a healthy, finely-bewhiskered, black-and-white adult male, obviously well-looked after, and had probably been fed by someone whose business or trade was affected by the lockdown and was unable to come to work.

Boomerang certainly wasn’t on his own as a number of cats arrived around the same time, but, unlike many of the others, he was definitely used to people and, although not completely friendly, was comfortable with humans around, and with other cats.

He had a more easy-going disposition than some and, although a fully-grown adult male, wisely had no intention of fighting his way to the top of the alpha-male tree. On the rare occasion when he came nose-to-nose with the dominant males, he backed off and the situation was diffused.

Maybe Boomerang knew that his stay would only be temporary, as every now and again he would disappear for a day or two before reappearing (which was how he got his name) – presumably he returned to his old stamping grounds to check whether his original feeder had returned, and when there was no sign, came back.

In the end, Boomerang was only with us for a few months, but he was a pleasure to look after and is remembered for all the right reasons.
