Mr Grey started off as Mr Grey. He was one of the younger neighbourhood alpha-males who happened to have a soft spot for The Cat. He would wait on the wall in the drive or sit on the windowsill looking through into the garden, hoping for a glimpse of his love interest.

But Mr Grey was ambitious, and deep down he wanted more than the love of his life, The Cat. He wanted The Cat’s garden, and that meant getting rid of Ana Half-Tail, The Cat’s son and companion, and current garden alpha-male. So Mr Grey started visiting the garden and it wasn’t long before he was feeling at home there.

And then he started to pick fights with Ana, leaving us in no doubt that he wanted Ana gone (or dead), and from that time on, our allegiance being with Ana, Mr Grey became known as The Evil Grey.
It wasn’t just Ana who The Evil Grey had in his sights – all of the alpha-males were on his radar, and not just in The Cat’s garden.

Fights became a regular occurrence; Ana disappeared, and then The Evil Grey.
But life in and around the garden went on and alpha-males came and went.
And then, after quite a break, The Evil Grey returned, a chunky, weather-beaten male who we did not at first recognise. We named him Sunday and his new name stuck, even when we realised who he was. He was still a fighter, and he still loved The Cat, but he was feeling his age and there were other younger, fitter and stronger alpha-males in the area now.

Sunday was still as big a character as ever, but these days he concentrated his efforts on bullying the younger cats and stealing their food, biting and scratching the humans, and napping in the sun.
Deep down, he hadn’t really changed a lot.
