Let’s talk about paws.
The Cat and a few of the male Visiting Cats had noticeably big paws.
On the other hand, it seemed that both male and female black-and-white and black cats seemed to have more ‘dainty’ paws, with orange, calico and tortoiseshell cats falling somewhere in between (with the occasional exception).
Sometimes it seemed incongruous that The Cat should have such big, fluffy paws while some of the chunky, powerful males had paws which hardly looked big enough to take their weight – but that’s Nature for you.

Maybe The Cat’s paws appeared bigger because they were fluffy (and also bright white), but in all the time we were looking after the Garden Family and Visiting Cats, we didn’t see another female with paws as big as hers.
This fine tabby was one of the first Visiting Cats to come to the garden, and probably a male judging by the build (and paws). He visited only a couple of times and seemed used to humans, although not too close. At the time, The Cat was out in the fields so we will never know whether the mystery visitor met with her approval or not. Either way, he had massive paws, so, with this blog in mind, he was very welcome.

Mr Bright was more The Cat’s type – orange, stocky and alpha-male. His really big paws were perfectly in proportion to his really big body. He had quite short legs, plenty of muscle and impressive jowls.

And then there was Mr Grey aka The Evil Grey aka Sunday, His paws were more like toes – well-spread and nimble. There wasn’t anything fluffy or cute about him or them; Mr Grey was a battle-monger among cats, ruthless in his determination to take over the garden and his love (The Cat) as his own.

After all, ‘paws maketh the cat’, as they say – or maybe not 🐾
