The first litter which The Cat had after we started looking after her, was born in the fields. When it was time for weaning, she brought Ginge, Tabby, Blackie and Splodge to the garden which meant we saw more of them, although they were never friendly (although neither was The Cat, at that point).
But all the same, sometimes they would look up to the terrace and make eye contact, obviously feeling safe being at a distance.
The only one who never made eye contact was Tabby, but Ginge, Blackie and Splodge were curious enough about these big, strange, humans to sneak a peek every so often, and here’s the proof.

Ginge had beautiful eyes which glistened like opals. Maybe s/he was a boy as he seemed to be quite adventurous.

Blackie was the brains of the family, having famously discovered the drainage pipe which went through the wall between the drive and the garden which became his (or maybe her) shortcut.

Splodge was happy to watch the world go by while her siblings zoomed around.

And Tabby couldn’t be left out despite there being no evidence of him (or her) having ever made eye contact with the humans. Sleeping seemed to be more of a speciality than was curiosity for Tabby.
