Visitor Cat’s kittens She-ba and Fennel were growing up well. They were weaned, but they still spent a lot of time with their mother in the garden and out in the fields. And in the fields was where tragedy struck when Visitor strayed too far one day, onto farming land where there were loose dogs. Instead of running for her life through the fields back to safety in the garden, her maternal instinct told her to lead the dogs away from her family, unfortunately into an area she didn’t know so well. Sadly, we never saw her again. It was fortunate that she had taught her daughters well, and She-ba and Fennel knew that they would be safe back in The Cat’s Garden.

By then, Twilight’s remaining three kittens Storm, Dawn and Dusk, had also found their way into the garden and joined The Garden Family, although Twilight chose not to spend time there, being happier in the fields.

So She-ba and Fennel were not altogether on their own, they had companions of a similar age in the garden who were also without their mother and, over the next few months, it just so happened that Fennel and Dusk were to become best friends.

The Cat and her family were unbothered by the comings and goings; these occasional friendships between different families happened here and there, but The Cat continued to be as independent as ever, overseeing her garden and all that went on in it.
