Now that the kittens were successfully weaned, they started to divide their time between the garden and the fields. The Cat left them for longer periods and they were happy to amuse themselves, inventing their own games and adventures, initially within the four walls of The Cat’s Garden.

The Cat would gather them up for night-time adventures, taking them into the field after tea and sitting patiently together, waiting for the sun to go down and twilight to descend, before she led them off on an adventure. They were building their survival skills individually and as a group.

On occasion, The Cat would go out in the evening with four kittens and return in the morning with three (usually the girls), the fourth (usually Fred) making his own way back later in the day. Male cats generally roam further than females who stay closer to their food source, preparing themselves for motherhood in later life. Luckily Fred was smart and never failed to return. He was turning into an adventurer himself.
