The fields with their tumbledown walls, occasional trees and undergrowth were the ideal place for growing kittens to play, hide, sleep, and enjoy adventuring together. But soon it was time to start weaning, and time for The Cat to bring her family into the garden.

Fred had been wondering how they were going to get down into the garden from this wall until he spotted the vine with its long branches and soil beneath. Moments later the vine was transformed into the kittens’ ladder, and the soil their soft landing spot as Fred’s sisters followed him into the garden.

The kittens were more than ready for weaning and needed little persuasion to tuck into solid food. Life was one big adventure and they were enjoying having somewhere new to explore. They thrived with regular food and water in addition to feeds from their mamma.

The Cat knew Fickle, Fred, Fleckle and Drip were more secure in the garden than they had been in the field, and, now that they were bigger and less reliant on her, she divided her time between the garden and the fields, reclaiming her independence and regaining her strength after bringing up her family.
