It was over a year since the humans had known The Cat, but still she was wary. She was happy to have food and water and somewhere to wean her kittens, but she was still unconvinced by the presence of humans. Feral cats are very different from stray cats, and The Cat was 100% feral.

Ana was flourishing. He was more relaxed than his mother and was inclined to be friendly. They were closely bonded, although The Cat (being The Cat) left as much of the hard work to Ana as possible, which included singing for meals (in particular under the humans’ bedroom window). The Cat was not a vocal lady; in fact no one can remember ever hearing her miaow. But Ana made up for that, and in style too.
